Sherry (Shehryar) Khan: Analyst to the CEO at Bernhard
Q1: What has been the most challenging aspect of your career, and how did you overcome it?

The biggest challenge in my career has been learning to juggle a variety of responsibilities at once. Life often requires us to “wear many hats,” and my current role as Analyst to the CEO of a national energy company has made that metaphor come to life. Every day, I switch between different tasks, projects, and functions, which can definitely feel overwhelming at times. Over the past seven months in this role, I’ve worked hard to strengthen my ability to adapt and transition seamlessly between these demands. It’s been a mix of long hours, ongoing learning, and determination, but embracing these challenges has taught me resilience and elevated my confidence.

The highlight of my short-lived career so far has been traveling to nearly 20 states over the past six months while working alongside the CEO. It’s been an incredible experience—not only because I’ve gotten to visit parts of the country I never expected to see but also because I’ve met some truly amazing people along the way. Shoutout to Utah, where I went on a breathtaking hike with my team—it’s a memory I’ll always treasure!

I wish I’d known just how different the professional world would be compared to college. During networking events, alumni often advised me to savor the present moment in school, and now I fully understand why. Transitioning to a professional environment meant moving to a new city with fewer personal connections and adjusting to an entirely different rhythm of life. While the experience has been rewarding, I’d have appreciated some advice on preparing for the emotional and social adjustments that come with this transition.

I find my greatest inspiration in reflecting on the challenges I’ve overcome. Every time I face a new hurdle, I remind myself of those moments when I pushed through adversity in the past. Those reflections keep me grounded and remind me of the growth that can come from even the toughest situations.

On most days, you’ll catch me ordering a simple black coffee—straightforward and effective. But on a laid-back Saturday morning, when I’m enjoying the charm of a local coffee shop here in Little Rock, Arkansas, I like to treat myself to a cappuccino with almond milk. It’s the perfect blend of indulgence and comfort.
